Malignant mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer, tumor tissue from a body known as the mesothelium. Mesothelium is a specialized layer of cells covering and protecting many internal organs, such as chest and abdominal cavities.
Types of malignant mesothelioma
The first type of malignant pleural mesothelioma or pleural mesothelioma is. This is the most common form of mesothelioma, which is about 75% of cases of mesothelioma. Thin serous membrane of the pleura between the lungs and chest, what to avoid in a greased surface of the lungs from rubbing against the chest wall. It also serves as a protective layer.
The second most common type of mesothelioma is peritoneal mesothelioma, also known as peritoneal mesothelioma. Thin serosal peritoneum that surrounds the abdominal organs. Peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare form of malignant mesothelioma cancer. This disease represents about 10% to 20% of all mesothelioma cases. In general, more invasive carcinoma, patients with the disease is diagnosed life expectancy is shorter than when it attracted pleural mesothelioma.
The third and least common type of mesothelioma is pericardial mesothelioma, also known as pericardial mesothelioma. This is less than 10% of all mesothelioma cases. Pericardium (heart DPC) serosa surrounds and protects the heart.
There are about 2,200 new cases of visceral malignant pleural mesothelioma each year. Mesothelioma is difficult to diagnose and rarely curable. The most common symptoms are shortness of breath and pain in the chest wall.
The reasons
Asbestos is the main cause of visceral malignant pleural mesothelioma. The period between the time of exposure to asbestos and the onset of symptoms ranges from 20 to 50 years. For this reason, late-onset, occurs more frequently in recent years. It is also more common in men than in women.
Diagnosis
Doctors usually an incision in the chest wall and is an instrument called a stethoscope between two ribs to see the area. Then the doctors do a biopsy, a tissue sample can be analyzed under the microscope.
Stages of Mesothelioma
Stage I: Cancer is in the lining of the chest cavity near the lung and heart or in the diaphragm or the lung found.
Stage II: Cancer has spread beyond the lining of the breast to the lymph nodes in the chest.
Stage III: Cancer has spread to the chest wall in the middle of the chest, heart disseminate, through the diaphragm or the abdominal wall, and in some cases, nearby lymph nodes.
Stage IV: Cancer has spread to distant organs and tissues.
Treatment
Radiation protection and in situations where the cancer at the time of emergence.Chemotherapy in advanced stages of malignant mesothelioma used.
Surgery and treatment of hyperthermia (heated) Chemotherapy improves survival and quality of life of patients with metastases in the abdomen (tumor on the lining of the abdominal cavity).
Surgery is the parameter for the first stage of malignant mesothelioma used. For Phase II to IV, surgical treatment is not yet complete.
